A MESSAGE FROM ARTISTIC DIRECTOR LINDA KACHELMEIER
December 21, 2025
Happy Solstice!
I’m Linda Kachelmeier, founder and artistic director of Lumina Women’s Ensemble. I want to let you know that I’ve decided to sunset LUMINA. This has been a difficult decision, but the timing of this announcement feels right. Since the early days, Winter Solstice has been a special time for us, with some of our favorite music and concerts. It’s no surprise that our CD was titled “Light in the Darkness”.
We were able to do many things in 11 years: sing nearly 200 different pieces in our repertoire, performed Schubert Club concerts, as MPR Class Notes Artists (including touring the state twice), Compline services, with Voices of Hope at Shakopee Women’s Prison. And we recorded a CD free to anyone in need of hope and healing. Throughout all of it, we remained dedicated to the mystery, beauty, and hope inherent in music.
YOU helped us do all these things–you funded the CD so we could give it away, sustained the project to cover costs so we could send it to more than 600 care centers during COVID), and you showed up. That is a lot.
I couldn’t have done any of this without incredible collaborators over the years: Angela Grundstad, Laura Krider, Clara Osowski, Kim Sueoka, and Ginna Watson. Their dedication and musicianship (as well as being darn good people) is treasured.
Although we will be removing our website in the near future, our Facebook page will remain and you’ll be able download the CD from my website indefinitely.

In the meantime, enjoy a little solstice gift from us:
ABOUT Lumina
Lumina is a professional women’s ensemble dedicated to the mystery, beauty, and hope inherent in music.
Our programming draws from a rich well of musical sources, including Medieval chants, Renaissance motets, folk song traditions, and works by living and local composers.
Our goal is to share the spiritual experience of music through performance, participation, and education.
Based in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, we have collaborated with faith communities, schools, and choral organizations to present concerts, special church services, and educational programs.
